The Red Lion, 70 Castle Road
Currently the Red Lion is closed. It has been on the market for sale for some months. The agent's sign says "All offers considered". Unfortunately in the present climate, the chances of it re-opening as a pub are debateable. There are two large pubs in the village, which appear to be doing reasonably well, but few villages of this size these days can support three. There is also The Cookley Arms, nearby on the A449, which is very much a food orientated pub, as well as the very popular Anchor in Caunsell. But it would be nice to see the Red Lion re-open. Image Updates: (1) April 2011: the pub is now open again; (2) January 2018: it finally closed as a pub in June 2014 and is now in use as a convenience store. Image

Red Lion Cookley Village Convenience Store, 70 Castle Road, Cookley, Worcs
Located on the corner of Castle Road and Lionfields Road, this building was for a very long time a public house called the Red Lion. Latterly it had a chequered few years when sometimes it was closed and sometimes it was open. The final closure came in June 2014, following which it was thought it would become an Indian restaurant. However the business running here now is a convenience store which appears to be affiliated to the Costcutter franchising operation. Elan pipeline syphon building
The Elan pipeline cuts through the middle of Cookley - the route is easy to follow because it has not been built on. This is facing east, back towards Iverley.

The Cookley 2000 Clock, Elizabeth Bache Corner
The clock stands on Elizabeth Bache corner, the latter named after a long serving shopkeeper, whose shop once stood here. The clock was unveiled at 11.30pm on the 31st December 1999, so Cookley residents could watch the countdown to the new millennium. The clock, which cost £6,500, has a time capsule buried underneath it.

Cookley Village Hall
The Village Hall at Cookley was demolished in 2007, to be replaced by 4 luxury homes. The community had mixed feelings because it was agreed to be removed to make way for "affordable" housing and its demise marked the end of a "community" building in the village.
