Winterbourne Abbas, River South Winterborne
One of two Dorset rivers with (almost) the same name, and one of half a dozen in the southern chalk counties. Winterbournes flow in winter and often dry out in summer. The South Winterborne rises in Winterbourne Abbas (the use of Winterbourne or Winterborne seems dependent on locality), and flows here through Martinstown (also known as Winterborne St Martin) before joining the Frome in West Stafford

Winterbourne Abbas garage site redevelopment
Winterbourne Abbas garage was previously a petrol station with village shop, car dealers and garage with Bride Valley Motors recovery service vehicles stabled there. Shut last year and has been up for rent since. Now apparently being part converted to a Spar shop and Costa Coffee franchise.

Winterbourne Steepleton: daffodils by the Winterborne River
Looking along the Winterborne River, which gives its name to several villages along its course - Winterbourne Steepleton and nearby Winterbourne Abbas are curious in that they include the letter 'u' in Winterbourne, whereas the others don't.
