Telephone box, Litton Cheney
A K6 telephone box (missing most of its glass) beside the minor village road. In 1935, the Post Office commissioned a new kiosk from Sir Giles Gilbert Scott to celebrate the Jubilee of King George V. The K6 Jubilee Kiosk, as it is known, was similar to the K2 box, being made of cast iron and painted red but was 25% lighter in weight. By the end of the 1930s there were 20,000 K6 telephone boxes in use all over the UK.

The Pelican-in-her-Piety, St Mary's Church
In Christian art the pelican generally symbolises charity, but the phrase 'Pelican-in-her-Piety' has an interesting derivation. The word 'piety' here has the classical meaning of devotion to one's young. For many centuries it was thought that the pelican fed her off spring with her own blood, hence this representation. In fact, the bird transfers pre-masticated food to its young from a large bag under its beak.
