Commemorative fountain Dorchester Borough Gardens
The fountain lies in a sheltered corner of the Borough Gardens. It was given by Charles Hansford - who also gave the Clock - in memory of Alderman George J G Gregory, JP, Mayor of Dorchester, who bought the land for the Gardens.

Fountain (commemoration detail) - Dorchester Borough Gardens
George John Gregory Gregory was made Mayor of Dorchester in 1872, 1873, 1884, 1885 and 1894. The Post Office Directory of 1875 states he was an "architect, surveyor, builder and contractor" and his address is given as South Street. Mr Gregory died on 16th February 1896.
Charles Hansford was a trusted friend of the above as he was chosen as one of the executors of Mr Gregory's will.

Dorchester Borough Coat of Arms
On the gates of the Borough Gardens near Bowling Alley Walk. The coat of arms is very ancient showing the lions of England and the fleurs de lis of France.
