West end of terrace, Ware Street
The end house of the terrace on the north side of Ware Street gets more sun than any other house in the road, since the house faces down the length of George Street which runs almost due south. Compare this with Image] taken less than a minute later - the darkness there makes the blue sky seen here look totally white, whereas the sun on the south-facing stone makes the sky look almost Mediterranean, and somewhat in contrast to the feel of the day, with a bitterly cold wind.

Plaque
Plaque just inside the arch at Image
"The paving of this street was carried out in 1983 by the Highways Maintenance Department of Durham County Council, and was jointly financed by Durham County Council, Teesdale District Council and the Department of the Environment."
No devotee of the Oxford comma, whoever composed that plaque!

"Work on this site was carried out by TASK FORCE NORTH under the MANPOWER SERVICE COMMISSION'S Special Programmes"
I feel it something of an omission that the plaque does not say what work was carried out or when.
