Plaque just inside the arch at Image "The paving of this street was carried out in 1983 by the Highways Maintenance Department of Durham County Council, and was jointly financed by Durham County Council, Teesdale District Council and the Department of the Environment." No devotee of the Oxford comma, whoever composed that plaque! It can be seen on the wall in Image
