The old mill at Harperley
This stands behind the former Harperley Hotel. It was built in 1817, according to local historian Fred Wade, by a Mr Hobson. His name can be seen on the door lintel on the left. It was a corn mill driven by water from the Kyo Burn, and is shown on the 1861 O S map.

The former Harperley Hotel
It is just possible to make out the lettering "Harperley" on this building which once was the Harperley Hotel (locally known as the "Ratepayers Arms" as for a while it was in public ownership). Some of the buildings have now been demolished. See also Image which shows the hotel in its heyday in 2007.
