Sign and seat, Edmondsley Wildlife Habitat
The Edmondsley Community Partnership, established in 1999, has worked to convert an unsightly derelict coalmining site to an amenity area for the benefit of the community and for wildlife. A particular feature of the Wildlife Habitat is the recording of sightings of the endangered butterfly species, the Dingy Skipper. The site also incorporates the Edmondsley Heritage Walk.

Edmondsley Minewater Treatment Scheme
Part of the Edmondsley Wildlife Habitat established in 1999. Contaminated mine water is filtered through the reedbeds which can be seen in the distance before being returned to the Cong Burn.

Sacriston Woods from Daisy Hill
Looking up to the woods from the south end of the village of Daisy Hill. The escarpment with its wooded slopes is a very prominent landmark in the area and can be seen from many miles away.

Edmondsley Reedbeds
Polluted minewater enters the Congburn stream. It is filtered by the reeds. The water is cleansed and returned to the stream. The reeds thrive on the pollutants.The reeds encourage wildlife.
