The Edmondsley Community Partnership, established in 1999, has worked to convert an unsightly derelict coalmining site to an amenity area for the benefit of the community and for wildlife. A particular feature of the Wildlife Habitat is the recording of sightings of the endangered butterfly species, the Dingy Skipper. The site also incorporates the Edmondsley Heritage Walk.
