Trackbed of the Leamside line
The original route of the York - Newcastle main line ran via Leamside and Washington. The current route via Durham resulted in the downgrading of the Leamside route to a mainly freight artery serving collieries in the Durham coalfield. The line was closed in the early 1990s though the trackbed remains in situ for possible future use.

Groundwork at construction site
Groundwork being done for the 'Integra 61' Development close to the County Durham village of Bowburn. The image was recorded from a footpath which had been closed by the local authority but there was no warning of it as an approach was made from the west and so the decision was made to press on through the works as not to, would have involved a significant retracing of steps.

Integra 61 is a planned industrial and warehouse development with residential and leisure to be included. The area is just off Jct 61 of the A1(M) at Bowburn.
