Remains of Court Knowe Fort
Court Knowe is a small rocky eminence on High Auchenlarie farm on which are traces of a small inner circle and part of an outer one. Situated on the summit of Court Knowe are the severely mutilated remains of a small fort with an enigmatic stone-built structure c. 20.0m in diameter near the centre, formed by an apparently strong, but now featureless, wall. The fort, sub-circular on plan, measures c. 38.0m in diameter and was defended on the S by at least two walls of which the outer faces survive to a height of 0.4m. A natural rock face provides a defence on the W and the wall appears to have been built along the edge, particularly at the NW corner where it merges with a stony bank which is all that survives of the N wall. Along the E only a slight single scarp can be seen. The entrance was probably at the SE corner. Traditionally, courts of justice were held on this knowe, hence its name.

Fields at High Auchenlarie
The view from the farm on the day that I visited is pretty outstanding. The small footprint of land to the far right on the mid horizon is Eggerness Point at Garlieston on the Machars and in the far distance on the horizon is a very clear outline of the Isle of Man, which from this point to the Point of Ayre on the Isle of Man is about 30 miles.

Gulp and Swallow!
Here's me, a pretty decent landscape photographer, I've been uploading pictures to Geograph for the last couple of years and I'm having a go at capturing a view across the fields at High Auchenlarie Farm. The scene is just grand, across to my target of Garvellan Rocks and Fleet Bay with Mossyard Caravan Park just across the A75 in the foreground. Get home, look at the picture on big screen and find an added bonus of this swallow cutting across my line of sight, which changes the image completely. No accounting for wildlife, is there?

Belted Galloway at High Auchenlarie Farm
This wee timorous beastie was taking in all the warmth of the afternoon sun at High Auchenlarie Farm when I visited. The Belted Galloway is a heritage beef breed of cattle originating from Galloway to the west side of southern Scotland, adapted to living on the poor upland pastures and windswept moorlands of the region. The Belted Galloway Cattle Society was founded in 1921, to promote the breed, encourage its development and keep records. Colour variations seen on belted Galloways include Black, White, Dun, Brown, Red, Blue and Grey.
