Belted Galloway at High Auchenlarie Farm

This wee timorous beastie was taking in all the warmth of the afternoon sun at High Auchenlarie Farm when I visited. The Belted Galloway is a heritage beef breed of cattle originating from Galloway to the west side of southern Scotland, adapted to living on the poor upland pastures and windswept moorlands of the region. The Belted Galloway Cattle Society was founded in 1921, to promote the breed, encourage its development and keep records. Colour variations seen on belted Galloways include Black, White, Dun, Brown, Red, Blue and Grey.
