The Doveridge Yew - Trunk
Famous ancient tree which retains a majestic charm despite the ravages of time and the chains and props that now support it. Although not so obvious from this angle, the heartwood has also seriously decayed (a common occurrence in old yew trees) which in turn makes their ages difficult to ascertain. Still, an estimate of 1000-1300 years is likely to be reasonably accurate.

The Doveridge Yew - Trunk Detail
A section of the hollowed-out centre of this ancient tree. Decay of the heartwood is a common feature of old yew trees which in turn makes their ages difficult to ascertain. In this case an estimate of 1000-1300 years is probably about right.
