Donisthorpe Colliery steam winding engine.
This was the No. 2 shaft winder. A horizontal duplex with piston valves. Built in c1872 possibly by Appleby Bros of London and rebuilt in 1916/17 by Worsley Mesnes Ironworks Ltd, Wigan. This stopped 1990 and was one of the two final working winders in the country (Sutton Manor being the other).

Ashby Canal (Donisthorpe Terminus)
From the terminus at Donisthorpe looking towards Moira, the Ashby Canal or "Moira Cut" as it was known to boaters, curves gently to the west. Note the houses of Moira Road on the right, much lower than the level of the canal at this point, a significant amount of metal piling keeping the water at bay.
