The nearest house is the Smiddy, and the red standstone one beyond it is the former school house. The gable of the parish kirk is in the background, beyond the tree.

Benholm kirk [1]
The plain exterior of this former parish kirk belies the fine and original interior. Opened in 1832, the kirk contains a sacrament house and monuments from an earlier 13th century church. Listed, category A, there is much detail and history at: http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/sc-2813-kirktown-of-benholm-former-parish-church-i#.V5BuazU5t8E

Benholm Parish Kirk
This is a difficult building to photograph well because it is impossible to get far enough away from it without falling over the wall into someone's private driveway. It's no longer in use as a kirk, the last service having been held there in 2004, but is being maintained as a place of interest. There was a kirk here in 1242, but the present kirk dates from 1832.
