Hartford Station
View SE, towards Crewe; ex-London & North Western West Coast Main Line, Crewe - Carlisle. A Down local train is calling, hauled by a 'Patriot' Class 5XP 4-6-0. The station is being rebuilt and masts and wires for the Electrification between Crewe and Liverpool are being erected, but electric trains would not however, appear for another seven months.

Hartford Station, in mid-winter
View northward towards Warrington and the North; London & North Western West Coast Main Line, Crewe - Carlisle. The 06.15 Carlisle - Crewe semi-fast is stopping to pick up me (and my wife, and others) on a bitterly cold day in December 1962. The wires are for the electric trains that started to run between Liverpool and Crewe on 1/1/62.

Hartford Station, with Up freight passing
View NW, towards Weaver Junction (for Liverpool), Warrington, Preston etc., West Coast Main Line. The station had been recently rebuilt, for the electrification between Crewe and Liverpool that was about to commence on 1/1/62. The Up Class F empties is rushing through with Stanier 8F 2-8-0 No. 48490, as I and others wait shivering on the Down platform.

Compare this to Image, contributed by the incomparable Ben Brooksbank. Hartford is essentially a suburb of Northwich. The station is on the line from Crewe to Liverpool.
