View NW, towards Weaver Junction (for Liverpool), Warrington, Preston etc., West Coast Main Line. The station had been recently rebuilt, for the electrification between Crewe and Liverpool that was about to commence on 1/1/62. The Up Class F empties is rushing through with Stanier 8F 2-8-0 No. 48490, as I and others wait shivering on the Down platform.
