Old Milepost by the A3400, Long Compton
Cast iron post with wooden attachment by the A3400 (was A34), in parish of Long Compton (Stratford on Avon District), next to village hall, 50m North of junction with Butlers Lane on deep verge. Shipston iron casting, erected by the Stratford to Long Compton Turnpike Trust in the 19th century. Refurbished in 2017 by local members of the Milestone Society and local organisations, assisted by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Inscription reads:- : CHAPEL HOUSE / {hand to left} 4 MILES : : LONDON / 76 : : SHIPSTON / 6 MILES {hand to right} : Grade II Listed.
