Fingerpost with protest notice, Whitley Grove, southeast Coventry
The A4 notice says "JAGUAR [logo] LEAVE OUR Green Belt ALONE". I'm not sure what land is being referred to but Jaguar announced plans for a southward extension of its Whitley plant, with extra parking, in January 2016. The plans appear to have been approved and implemented during the year. Whitley Grove is not affected.

The River Sowe nearing Whitley Grove, Whitley, southeast Coventry
Whitley Grove is a hillside oakwood with bluebells in spring. The City Council's guide to the Sowe Valley Footpath notes; "Sandstone was quarried here for the original Coventry Cathedral [a parish church until 1908], hence the undulating shape of the wood with its various dells. There are also the remains of an old ice house on the edge of the wood, used to store ice for the old Whitley Abbey … There are two ponds in the wood that are fed by natural springs."
On the Willenhall side, left, is an extensive floodplain

Pipe across the River Sowe, Whitley, southeast Coventry
A sewer, perhaps, en route to Finham treatment works. It is shown on the 1:25k map as a line across the river; it could be interpreted as a weir. In the background is Whitley Grove, hillside woodland.

Paths in Whitley Grove, southeast Coventry
No view can be typical but this shows the abundant holly trees. There is oak and ash in the wood but where trees have gone, birch and sycamore have established. The paths are well-used; there are signs of disrespect for the wood but it hangs on to its character as a natural, even wild place.
