West Midlands Police - Binley, Willenhall, Cheylesmore and Earlsdon Neighbourhood

Anti-Social Behaviour by youths continues to be an issue across Binley & Willenhall, there has been an uptick at The Alan Higgs Centre and surrounding fields. Some incidents occurred on bonfire Night which are being actively investigated. In addition, there has been ongoing shop theft/ business robbery incidents along Remembrance Road, Quorn Way in Binley & The Airport Retail Park in Willenhall – all are repeat shop theft locations. We are focusing our efforts on these areas.

We take Anti-Social behaviour and shop thefts seriously and will be increasing our patrols across Binley & Willenhall, in particular areas where incidents have occurred. This will ensure that would be offenders are deterred by a visible police presence and local businesses are reassured. We are working closely with local shops and have made numerous visits during our Business Impact Week (10th – 16th November). Business Robberies are currently a local force priority.

In Earlsdon a local issue we are currently looking at is speeding which is a concern raised by residents and councillors at the local Police and Communities Together meeting had at Earlsdon Library last week. There are a number of 20 MPH speed limit roads in Earlsdon and drivers regularly break this speed limit.

We will be organising speed watches in the near future and are in communication with the council about the possibility of introducing more speed signs in the area.

The focus we are tackling in Cheylesmore are residential burglaries. There have been some incidents the past month as the longer nights have drawn in. Offenders have taken the opportunity to act as the days have become shorter. A prime target is the homes of residents known to have expensive Jewellery.

We will be increasing our patrols of residential areas across Cheylesmore at the high risk hours (late evening) to deter offenders and provide a visible police presence. Residents should feel reassured that we will be acting decisively to any calls. Our top priority is the protection of our residents. Please be cautious advertising on social media any expensive goods present at home, or the absence of anyone from home.

A number of CPW's and CPN's have now been served on offenders. This will ensure that would be offenders are deterred from continuing this behaviour Business Robberies are currently a local force priority and we have made a number of arrests in the past few weeks. We will continue to actively investigate and prosecute shop theft offenders throughout the festive period.

In Earlsdon a local issue we are currently looking at is speeding which is a concern raised by residents and councillors at the local Police and Communities Together meeting had at Earlsdon Library last week. There are a number of 20 MPH speed limit roads in Earlsdon and drivers regularly break this speed limit.

Speed Watches and Joint patrol have been organised in December and January with local councillors in order to show a visible police presence across Earlsdon and catch speeders in the act.

We have increased our late night patrols across Cheylesmore area and have seen a significant reduction in residential burglaries in the past month. We will continue to monitor this situation and work hard to safeguard our community.

Shoplifting offences continue to cause concern at Remembrance Road, Quorn Way in Binley & The Airport Retail Park in Willenhall – all are repeat shop theft locations. We are focusing our efforts on these areas.

We take Anti-Social behaviour and shop thefts seriously and have increased our patrols across Binley & Willenhall, in particular areas where ASB incidents have occurred. We continue to issue Community Protection Notices and Community Protection Warnings to those that are Identified as being responsible, we have secured arrests and conviction of a number of prolific shoplifting offenders and will continue to target those causing issues to our communities.

In Earlsdon a local issue we are currently looking at is speeding which is a concern raised by residents and councillors at the local Police and Communities Together meetings had at Earlsdon Library. There are a number of 20 MPH speed limit roads in Earlsdon and drivers regularly break this speed limit. There is also an increase in continually bad parking and vehicles using the footpaths as car-parks during the night time economy at the weekends with those using the entertainment venues disregarding parking rules and basic sensible parking.

Speed Watches and Joint patrol have been organised in December and January with local councillors in order to show a visible police presence across Earlsdon and catch speeders in the act. We will continue to monitor and arrange future campaigns together with incorporating evening patrols over the weekend to target illegal and anti-social parking.

Retail crime and shoplifting offences continue to be a focus of ours across the Binley & Willenhall area. Remembrance Road, Quorn Way in Binley & The Airport Retail Park in Willenhall are all home to repeat targets and continue to be affected by criminality.

We continue to issue Community Protection Notices and Community Protection Warnings to those that are identified as being involved in shop thefts, and recently we have secured the arrests and charges of a number of prolific shoplifting offenders. Retail area patrols are incorporated into our daily patrols, and we regularly stop to engage with employees of stores in the affected areas.

In Earlsdon we continue to try and address speeding, anti-social driving and inconsiderate parking, issues which continue to be flagged to us. In particular, speeding at the top of Earlsdon Street and Beechwood Avenue remains prominent. We also continue to move-on inconsiderately parked taxis in the evenings while patrolling, and delivery vehicles where and when reported to us.

In response to the issue of speeding, we deploy marked police vehicles and blue-light trained drivers to patrol the area on a regular basis. We have also requested Hand Held Laser Speed device training courses for Officers new to the team so that they can carry out Speed Watch operations. We are increasing our pro-active patrols and visibility in the area to reflect our approach to tackling these issues.

The focus we are tackling in Cheylesmore at the moment is vehicle crime, including the theft of personal items from vehicles, interference with motor vehicles, damage to vehicles and the attempted and complete theft of vehicles. In particular, Scimitar Way, Cecily Road and Warwick Road have all been affected recently.

We have increased our patrols across the Cheylesmore area, including targeted patrols of crime hotspots and recently afflicted areas for reassurance. We have devised a comprehensive set of actions to be taken upon vehicle-related crime being recorded in order to expedite the investigation of these reports.
