Whitley Grove is a hillside oakwood with bluebells in spring. The City Council's guide to the Sowe Valley Footpath notes; "Sandstone was quarried here for the original Coventry Cathedral [a parish church until 1908], hence the undulating shape of the wood with its various dells. There are also the remains of an old ice house on the edge of the wood, used to store ice for the old Whitley Abbey … There are two ponds in the wood that are fed by natural springs." On the Willenhall side, left, is an extensive floodplain
