Leamington Spa: site of Blue Plaque - 21 Rosefield Street
In amongst the imposing Regency terraces of Leamington Spa there are many much more humble rows of houses. These housed the workers and the many others who served the town. 21 Rosefield Street is of note for two main reasons. Firstly it was a Salvation Army house . Secondly the son of the Leamington Spa Corps officers who lived there became the renowned and prolific composer Robert Simpson. It is he who is commemorated by the blue plaque. A close up of this can be found here Image

Holly Walk, Royal Leamington Spa
This was once part of the long drive to Newbold Comyn House from Leamington Priors village south of the river. It was lined with great oaks and elms whose spreading roots made for a hazardous walk let alone a carriage ride. This avenue of limes was the replacement, believed to have been planted in the 1880s. The Holly Walk celebrated in the early guidebooks to the spa may have been an older formal feature further on but the name has drifted west.

Going green
The top of Holly Walk in Leamington Spa. This used to be the carriage drive for the long-demolished Newbold Comyn mansion. The buildings on the right form Brandon Parade which featured several villas by important Leamington architect William Thomas. That didn't stop planners allowing their demolition to build things like the grey concrete Job Centre pictured. Thankfully some period buildings remain, mostly converted to offices.
