The Cycle Works
Student accommodation on Raglan Street, completed in 2017. The name reflects the cycle industry heritage of the area, with the 1889 25 inch map showing a "Raglan Mills" (disused) on the site. This appears to have briefly been the final home of the Zephyr Bicycle and Tricycle Company, which operated from a "Raglan Street Mills" from 1888-9. Prior to the current building, the site was occupied by a car dealership.

Vauxhall, Chevrolet and used cars are displayed by the Brandish dealership. John Brightley adds: 'It's been there basically as we see it today since 1976, according to the planning record, which confirms my memories too - although it was lightly refurbished with some new cladding in 2005."
It cannot be coincidence that the rooflines form a series of Vs. The side access, left, is seen in Image To its left is the Baptist Church in course of enlargement in SP3379. See Image and Image

The showroom is for Vauxhall, Chevrolet and used cars. Signs and 'Lifetime warranty' flags are displayed by the Brandish car dealership. Their showroom, out of shot right, is seen in Image On the left is the corner of the Lower Ford Street Baptist Church; see Image
John Brightley adds: "It's been there basically as we see it today since 1976, according to the planning record, which confirms my memories too - although it was lightly refurbished with some new cladding in 2005. This short road is all that remains of Perkins Street."
