Former public house, Howard Street, Coventry
A handsome pair of houses in the Queen Anne revival style of the late 19th or early 20th centuries, situated between Foleshill Road and Stoney Stanton Road, just north of Coventry city centre. Until recently they were a pub, the Three Shuttles, a reference to the ribbon-weaving industry of old Coventry.

Gurdwara Guru Nanak Parkash, Coventry
The foundation stone of this gurdwara (Sikh temple) was laid in 1965. It is situated in Harnall Lane West, a short distance to the north of the city centre.
The gurdwara is seen here during the Heritage Open Days in September 2021, when guided visits were taking place. Visitors were shown the prayer halls and invited to eat in the langar, the food hall. The blue ribbons adorning the exterior could be seen on other places of worship in the city and formed part of an event called 'Faith' in the UK City of Culture 2021 programme; see this BBC report https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-coventry-warwickshire-58027456 .
This gurdwara has experienced internal conflicts in recent years which have occasionally turned violent, and it received an official warning from the Charity Commission in 2017 (see this report in Civil Society News, https://www.civilsociety.co.uk/news/commission-issues-warning-to-faith-charity-where-there-is-a-regular-police-attendance.html ). So it is understandably keen to emphasise its work for the local community, some of which is undertaken in co-operation with the Salvation Army, which has a hostel nearby.

St Stanislaus Kostka Catholic church, Coventry
This is a Catholic church, situated at the junction of Harnall Lane West and Springfield Road, which serves the Polish community in Coventry. There is a Polish community centre behind the church building. The church is dedicated to St Stanislaus Kostka, a Polish nobleman, known for his youthful holiness, who died in 1568 while a novice with the Jesuits https://www.jesuits.global/saint-blessed/saint-stanislaus-kostka/ .
Poles settled in Coventry during and after the second world war. The invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany in 1939 and the subsequent occupation of the country by Germany and the Soviet Union led to the formation of a Polish government in exile in London and to service personnel forming the Polish Free Forces, which fought alongside British forces, while some served in the Royal Air Force. Many chose to remain in Britain after 1945, rather than return to a Poland ruled by a communist government installed by the Soviet Union. In Coventry, Polish Catholics worshipped in local churches until this building was completed in 1961; see the Victoria County History of Warwickshire, vol. 8, pp368-371 https://www.british-history.ac.uk/vch/warks/vol8/pp368-371 .
The church is shown here decked with the blue ribbons of the 'Faith' event that forms part of the UK City of Culture 2021 programme https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-coventry-warwickshire-58027456 .
