Disused synagogue, Barras Lane, Coventry
A former synagogue in Barras Lane, in the Spon End district of Coventry just west of the city centre. It was built in the Romanesque (round-arched) style to a design by Thomas Naden of Birmingham, and includes a vestibule, to the right of the main building, and beyond that a house for the rabbi, not visible in this photo. https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1393332 It was opened in 1870 with the words of Psalm 118 verse 19: "Open to me the gates of righteousness; I will enter them and praise the Lord". It closed in 2003. The Coventry Society reports that the synagogue interior appears intact but is being slowly devoured by dry rot in the basement. The future of this Grade II listed building is therefore very uncertain. https://www.coventrysociety.org.uk/buildings-at-risk/coventry-synagogue.html

Rabbi's house with synagogue behind, corner of Barras Lane and Gloucester Street, Coventry
A synagogue with attached vestibule and rabbi's house, built in 1870 to a design by Thomas Naden of Birmingham. The style is Romanesque (the round-arched medieval style often known as 'Norman' in England). The building is in the Spon End district of Coventry, just to the west of the city centre. The small Jewish community of the city struggled to maintain the synagogue and it closed in 2003. https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1393332 https://www.coventrysociety.org.uk/buildings-at-risk/coventry-synagogue.html
