The Cathedral Lanes Shopping centre has the canopy removed and can be seen in all its glory along with Lady Godiva.

The 25 tricycle motive power for Lady Godiva and her horse is prepared prior to the Godiva Carnival. As part of the Godiva Awakes project, the six metre tall animated puppet will be propelled to London over 5 days by 100 cyclists in teams. One of the 'Artists Taking the Lead' commissions of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.

The octagonal pillars are clad in Hornton stone, aka Marlstone Rock, an iron-rich limestone from the Middle Jurassic, quarried on Edge Hill. The Cathedral Lanes shopping centre languishes in the background while the spire of the ruined cathedral sets up a historical context.

These escalators have since been removed in order to open up the view along the Precinct with the spire of St Michael's Cathedral in the background as originally planned by city architect Donald Gibson when planning the city centre after the destruction of WWII.

The Levelling Stone in Coventry's Upper Precinct Image Easily overlooked and walked over every day by people who don't even notice it, this was the point in the centre of Coventry where architect Donald Gibson placed his theodolite for the rebuilding of Coventry city centre after the devastation of the World War II bombing of the city. The stone features a phoenix figure, representing Coventry rising from the ashes, by sculptor Trevor Tennant. The spire of the old cathedral is now framed and visually unimpeded on the axis of the postwar shopping precinct. Marks and Spencer has always occupied that corner. The block facing it was once British Home Stores. Image ID: 7459771

Symbol of Aten on a pillar in Coventry's Broadgate. ‘Aten’ is the Egyptian Sun God, the favourite God of Pharaoh Akhenaten who built the ancient city of Tell el-Amarna. This symbol is on the side of the first pillar erected in the precinct and is one of the 'Markers' laid down by architect Donald Gibson. It is thought to signify the influence the ancient Egyptian city of Tell el-Amarna had on Gibson's design for Coventry.
