Refurbishment of Folkestone Harbour Station
Compared with Image, all traces of the plastic sheeting have been removed to expose the new roof canopies above both platforms. The refurbishment is being carried out by W W Martin, who issued a notice on 20 May 2016 that read: Our Special Projects Team have commenced the ‘Link Works - Phase A’ project together with our sister company WWM Civils for our client Folkestone Harbour (GP) Ltd. The works include refurbishments and alterations to afford public access to the former station and platform areas including the level crossing on South Quay, Signal Box, Harbour Masters House, Platforms 1, 2 and 3 and the Upper Harbour Arm http://www.wwmartin.co.uk/news The artwork featuring the Image has been reinstated to stand between the former railway tracks. There was a circular plaque opposite the artwork, affixed to a roof support before refurbishment commenced, which bore the following information: Paloma Varga Weisz (1966, Germany). ‘Rug People’ 2011. Bronze, carpet, wood. Carrying a group of five strange visitors, a carpet appears to have landed on the tracks, as if out of some unknown fairy tale or mirage. The work is inspired by the history of the now abandoned station, the refugee camps in Calais and Varga Weisz’s father’s fate of emigration Link Paloma Varga Wiesz was born in 1966 and is a contemporary artist living in Germany. She is best known for her sculptures and drawings Link .

Folkestone Harbour
Folkestone Harbour is now unusual (unique?) in being crossed by a railway branch. This has seen occasional steam hauled specials but its closure is imminent. There is obviously a swing bridge at one end but judging by all the cables strewn along it this hasn't turned in many a year and it would be inadvisable to try.
