There was a circular plaque opposite the artwork, affixed to a roof support before refurbishment commenced, which bore the following information: Paloma Varga Weisz (1966, Germany). ‘Rug People’ 2011. Bronze, carpet, wood. Carrying a group of five strange visitors, a carpet appears to have landed on the tracks, as if out of some unknown fairy tale or mirage. The work is inspired by the history of the now abandoned station, the refugee camps in Calais and Varga Weisz’s father’s fate of emigration Link Paloma Varga Wiesz was born in 1966 and is a contemporary artist living in Germany. She is best known for her sculptures and drawings Link .
