Bowling Street, Sandwich
Sandwich is the most complete medieval town in England. The impression is of a French or Dutch town because of the Flemish protestant refugees who came over in the 16th and 17th centuries. It has an intricate street pattern. This is Bowling Street, close to the junction with Delf Street.

No.15 Market Street
Not as old as it first appears, this was originally Jacobs Bros, general ironmongers, and was built in about 1880. A giant key hanging outside may be the sign of the trade. The strange carved figures were made by Italian craftsmen and it is believed that they have allegorical meanings and relate to Isaac Jacobs' family and their beliefs.

The Empire Cinema
"Sandwich Cinema is really rather lovely and a fetching mix of old and new. I have visited to see a couple of films and love the interior, which is a mix of modern seating and screening facilities plus art deco design and decoration. There is normally only one film playing at a time, but I don’t find that a problem. It’s really nice to see an old cinema restored and operational, rather than films only being shown at impersonal multiplexes. I would definitely recommend a visit, as it’s nice to support a small cinema as well as being a good evening out. - Betty" Quote from a cinema review site, with thanks to Betty. The cinema started showing films in 1937.
