Old Fox Close
1970s(?) housing on a block of land on Coulsdon Common. Although building here would seem incongruous, given the surrounding common, the block in which the road stands is shown on the 1871 6 inch map as an enclosure surrounding houses named Newland Cottages, with a care home by the name of Newland Cottages still on the site.

1940s/1950s semi-detached housing off Fox Lane. Although building here would seem incongruous, being surrounded by Coulsdon Common, the block in which the road stands is shown on the 1871 6 inch map as an enclosure surrounding houses named Newland Cottages, with a care home by the name of Newland Cottages still on the site.

New sign for the Fox on Coulsdon Common
There have been frequent changes to this sign within recent memory. Just a few years ago, the sign depicted a 'Cheeky Fox', grinning as it held the wishbone of a chicken. This was not approved of by certain members of the community, and eventually it was replaced by a sign (seen on another photograph for this square) showing a nice picture of the animal. Now just yesterday we have this one (to my eye inferior).

Coulsdon Common: Old Fox Close
Must be one of the most enviable locations in outer London. They are just a few metres inside the GLC boundary, so they get the Freedom Pass. And just minutes from a good pub and lovely countryside.
