10 Douglas Drive, Shirley, Croydon
Rear garden on the brand new house in April 1938. The backs of the houses are those in Lime Tree Grove, with one of the old Lime Trees showing above the one on the right. The ground was full of rounded pebbles that have been collected to make a makeshift pathway. Dad used say that a cart track ran across the middle of the garden, but it is not evident in the photo.

10 Douglas Drive, Shirley, Croydon
No 10 Douglas Drive Shirley in 1938. Then a brand new Gower Type B house costing £785 new, when my father purchased it. Built on the Spring Park Estate in Shirley, Douglas Drive was then a Cul-de-sac and, in the photo, has not yet been made up. All the houses in the Drive survived WW2, No 6 being requisitioned by Canadian forces prior to D Day. I was born in the back bedroom of No 10 in 1942.

Spring Park: The 'Goat'
Large and active pub. Since the flags on display are St. George's crosses, one must assume they are there in readiness for the European football championships, rather than the Jubilee.
