Mayfields, New Ferry, April 1976
The playing fields these Under-13s were playing on was previously a brickworks up until the 1950s. The "hill" to the right is an uncompleted landfill (it remains to this day uncompleted!) The current view from this location includes a further higher uncompleted landfill behind the landfill in this picture. To think that landfills are supposed to be converted to parks and open spaces within a year of their termination of landfill operations makes one think aghastly toward the local council. This area is one of the most deprived of the borough and to this day local Councillors still ignore it!

The local tip is in the background - hard to believe it was once at sea-level!

Reclaimed land and tip at New Ferry
In the foreground is new marshland - this was previously mudflats. All the land further on has been reclaimed. It has a retaining bank of rocks, and the entire area was filled in with silt. Since then, it has been used as a landfill site and is quite enormous now.

Port Sunlight River Park
The pond at the northern part of the Port Sunlight River Park. This area is a new public space opened on 12 August 2014. Being a local I only noticed it recently from the brown-background leisure traffic signs on the nearby southbound A41 bypass. I read that 12,000 trees were planted on the site. There seems to be some issues about lack of parking and litter bins, but this is a wonderful site to visit, with benches dotted around to sit at on the gravel paths, plus the odd picnic bench. The park has an elevated position over the Mersey Estuary and gives some great views. The kids also seem to love it here!
