The north carriage drive, Insole Court, Llandaff
This carriage drive leads up to Fairwater Road, and has been the main entrance to Insole Court throughout its life since it was first built around 1855. The road that goes to the right behind the stone wall leads to the Stable Block
Image The trees on either side of the drive are lime trees, forming a traditional lime avenue so beloved by the owners of grand houses.

The Stable Block, Insole Court, Llandaff
The Stable Block and Coach House are, appropriately, near the main entrance. It is largely hidden from view, and seems unused at present although there are ongoing discussions about its future. Visit http://www.insolecourt.org.uk/stable_block_consultation.html for more information.

Carved panels, Insole Court, Llandaff
These are examples of the carved stone panels that adorn the bays of the south side
Image of Insole Court, and appear to be of hunting scenes. These bays were added to the original house, called Ely Court and built around 1855, when the gothic remodelling took place between 1873 and 1878.

Griffon on gate pillar, Insole Court
This carved stone griffon adorns a pillar at the top of the south carriage drive to Insole Court, the tower of which can be seen in the background. This house has a complex history, and was remodelled between 1873-78 in a Gothic style popularised by William Burges' work nearby at Cardiff Castle and at Knightshayes Court in Devon (now a National Trust property).
The house is currently owned by Cardiff City Council, and has an active Friends group that is working to ensure the house and grounds are maintained and used for the local community - http://www.insolecourt.org.uk

AFS garages at Insole Court, Llandaff
This row of garages was built in 1940 when the AFS HQ was moved to Insole Court from the city centre. Their purpose was to house the fire engines used during the bombings of the 1939-45 war. Whilst historic in their own right, their lack of elegance somewhat mars the front of Insole Court, an interesting Victorian Gothic house.
