Waun Gron Road, Cardiff
This busy road was seemingly built with a wide central strip. The trees provide a green block in summer and absorb traffic noise. The houses on the right are typical of many in this area. They were built on land formerly part of Insole Court, which was compulsorily purchased by Cardiff Corporation in 1932 to enable a new orbital road, Western Avenue, to be built. Conditions in the purchase meant that the houses built had to be of high quality, with values in the £600 to £800 price range! The area has kept its character and remains a very pleasant suburb, with many green areas. With thanks to the booklet "Insole Court", published by the Friends of Insole Court, see http://www.insolecourt.org.uk

Parade of shops, Waun Gron Road, Cardiff
This parade of shops sits at the busy junction of Waun Gron and Ely Roads on the western side of Cardiff. They appear Edwardian, but could be later from the 1930's, and are a busy neighbourhood centre.

Fairwater Conservative Club, Cardiff
The street entrance and the main front of the building. On the extreme left can be seen the former stables now converted to mews cottages, somewhat noisy I guess as they back onto a busy crossroads. see also

Fairwater Conservative Club, Cardiff
The Club is an imposing Victorian merchants house now used as a Club, and with a large modern extension. It has many memories for me as my wedding reception was held here in the long and hot summer of 1976 ! See also

The rear of the Club building. The garden area is shaded by the trees in summer, and is a pleasant spot, even if it looks a little untidy in this winter view. See also
