The Bishop's rose garden
Part of the grounds to Image . Until its dissolution in 1539 there was a monastery attached to Ely Cathedral, and the monks' kitchen stood on this site. Some 12th century pillars from the inside of the building remain attached to the wall of the Bishop's house (left). The Gallery, Ely
The road frontage of the School and the Cathedral is called the Gallery.

Postbox in a wall
Just to the south of Ely Cathedral. Probably used a lot in the past by pupils attending The King's School. These days I suspect they are more likely to communicate with home via email and Skype.

The Bishop's House, Ely
Dating from the 13th century with later alterations, this was originally the Great Hall (or guest hall) of the monastery attached to Ely Cathedral. After the dissolution of the monasteries the building passed to the Dean of the Cathedral. Since 1941 it has been the residence of the Bishop of Ely, who downsized from here Image .
