Two windmills and a water tower
This hill top is quite crowded, the mill on the right is Foster’s mill, built in 1857, and still producing flour. See http://www.fostersmill.co.uk The one on the left is Priors Smock Mill. The water tower was built in 1939 by Newmarket Rural District Council.

Swaffham Prior Mill
The mill is commercially run and was running with two stones today on a public open day. The black tarred mill is in excellent working order.

The grain store. The iron central shaft can be split here so that the wind can power the sack hoist only, or the external engine can mill without turning the sails, wasting energy.

Foster's Mill, Swaffham Prior
Swaffham Prior is unique in the United Kingdom as having two working windmill. This one is Foster's Mill which is off Mill Hill. Fosters Mill is an artisan stoneground organic flour mill powered by wind. It prides itself on sourcing locally grown grains and produces high-quality flour. Their stoneground organic flour can be purchased at the mill itself, through mail order, and at local outlets. Swaffham Prior Mill - Governor
There are three governors and two sets of stones. This one was used to control a guilotine valve on the entry spout to the grain cleaner (Jon Cook, Miller).
