Scotch Street (east side) ? The Lanes - February 2018 (2)
Continuing down Scotch Street, the "Lion & Lamb Inn" appears to have been on the extreme right in this view (premises now occupied by Ryman), with the "Old Bush Inn" and the "Globe Inn" some two to three blocks further north. The "Lion & Lamb" was acquired on 31 August 1916 and closed in April 1917 (converted to meeting rooms "The Trades Hall", demolished 1979.), the "Old Bush Inn" was acquired on 12 October 1916 (date of closure not yet found), while the "Globe Inn" was acquired on 12 October 1916 (date of closure also not yet found). For information on "The Lanes", see: Image] . Photograph is for record only – I have no connection with any business seen in this view and cannot advise on their products or services.

Former "Blue Bell Inn", Scotch Street, Carlisle - June 2017
18th Century coaching inn, acquired by the State Management Scheme on 28 August 1916. It was sold in 1973 to W Vasey & Sons for £50,000 and closed shortly thereafter for alteration to the retail outlets seen here. At the time of sale, the premises included the Inn, and off sales and a shop (let to Halfords Limited). While the brick-faced front appears original (excepting the ground floor), the gable wall nearest the camera is new. Photograph is for record only - I have no connection with any business seen in this view and cannot advise on their products or services.

Site of former pub, Scotch Street, Carlisle - June 2017
As mentioned in: Image], State Management Scheme records show two pubs in St Albans Row - the "Hole-in-the-Wall" and the "St Albans Row Vaults". Period OS Maps indicate that one extended into Scotch Street and would appear to have been on the site of this building. However, the exact locations of these pubs is currently unclear - but it is known that both came under State control on 4 September 1916 and were probably closed very shortly thereafter. Photograph is for record only - I have no connection with any business seen in this view and cannot comment on their products or services.
