Back of the former Crown Court building
Built between 1810-17, on the site of the western bastion of an older defensive structure called The Citadel - see Images of England for more information http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/Details/Default.aspx?id=386722. Stones from the partly demolished city walls were used in its construction. At ground level there is a row of cells with glass block windows. No longer used as a court - that function moved to a new building in 1992.
