Revisiting the scene in September 2018, none of the four businesses was still trading at this location.
From left to right : No 46-48 was Carlisle Toys & Hobbies, now Savers discount store; No 44 was coco bay, now Slater Tanning Studio; No 42A was Hodgsons Newsagents, now Anystyle Barbers; No 42 was Argos, currently empty (one of two Argos stores in Carlisle, this branch relocated to Sainsbury's at Caldewgate in 2018).

Carlisle bus station
Note that, if you hold an English concessionary bus pass, it is only valid as far as the border, and if you ride through into Scotland, you have to pay for the Scotch portion of the journey. The converse applies for Scottish passengers travelling into Carlisle, who must pay for the Gretna to Carlisle section.
