The Richard Rose Morton Academy

Morton Secondary School opened on this site in 1968. It changed to an academy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academy_%28English_school%29 in 2008.

Metal plate attached to stone post by the A595, in parish of CARLISLE (CARLISLE District), Wigton Road, Morton School, 100m North of junction with Glaramara Drive, near Suttle House, in hedge behind wide footpath/cycleway; just South of bus-shelter, on North side of road. Carlisle red stone and curved plate, erected by the Cockermouth & Carlisle turnpike trust in the 19th century.

Suttle House, Wigton Road
Built in the late 18th century, originally a farm but as the estate was divided up the house and immediate grounds became a gentleman's residence. The house is a listed building (Grade II). Work started in about 2007/8 on a development of 41 houses and apartments in the grounds of Suttle House, but the builders have put it on hold "due to current market conditions".
