Gt Asby Primary School
The school celebrated its 300th birthday in 1988. It was a comprehensive, in that it educated all the children of the area up to the age of 14. Boys were accommodated on one side, girls the other. Remnants of this division can be seen round the back. Now there is a division between infants and juniors. Pupil numbers in recent years have averaged around 30. Being fairly remote, with the nearest large school at Appleby, closure has been staved off.

The models are painted sandstone carvings, and the middle one at least is a replacement following theft.

Well, Gt Asby.
This is not really a well - it's a rising for waters which fall on the surrounding limestone hills. There is a direct dye-traced link with the water found in the far reaches of Pate Hole, a cave 1.5km to the south. Only in very wet weather does water flow out of Pate Hole and down the usually dry valley which leads to this well. It is rumoured never to have run dry.

Asby Beck at Great Asby
Great Asby is an attractive village with old cottages and a hall built in 1670. Asby Beck flows through the middle of the village with a long green up both grassy banks either side.

Bus shelter, Great Asby
The bus shelter is full of village notices and acts as the newspaper distribution point, whilst along the back wall is a historic plan of the village as it was in 1911, see Image But the bus service is sparse in the extreme - one bus a week to Appleby-in-Westmorland on a Friday. But there are also two on-demand rural wheels service operators.
