The school celebrated its 300th birthday in 1988. It was a comprehensive, in that it educated all the children of the area up to the age of 14. Boys were accommodated on one side, girls the other. Remnants of this division can be seen round the back. Now there is a division between infants and juniors. Pupil numbers in recent years have averaged around 30. Being fairly remote, with the nearest large school at Appleby, closure has been staved off.
