The Caledonian - September 2016

Former "Red Lion Hotel" - February 2018
Probably Carlisle's most distinctive City centre hotel, the "Red Lion Hotel" was built between 1894 and 1896. It was renamed the "Central Hotel" in 1990 and there is planning approval for its internal conversion to a Holiday Inn. Date of acquisition by the State Management Scheme has yet to be ascertained, but it was sold (along with "The Caledonian" - see:Image] ) to Whitbread in 1973 for £175,100. It has had periods of closure, but is currently trading and appears to have a positive future. See also: Image], Image] and Image] .
