Situated on the corner of Mary Street and Botchergate, the first reference to this pub is found in 1852 when it was called the Lancaster & Caledonian Hotel. Very popular with railwaymen, it was acquired by the State Management Scheme in August 1916 and sold to Whitbread for £175,100 in 1973.This sale included the former "Red Lion Hotel" see: Image] .
