Orton Liberal Club
The datestone over the door is 1888, surmounted by a figure that I presume is Gladstone, liberal prime minister intermittently from 1880-1894 although not at this particular time.

The Old School House, Orton
I quote the current name of the building, although on OS maps of 1957 and earlier it is shown as a police station. Maybe the two halves of the building had different uses.

The inscription above the door is GB 1604 MB, and Historic England indicates the initials refer to members of the Birkbeck family. See Image for context.

Petty Hall, Orton
Despite the smallness implied by the name, this is in fact the grandest building in the village centre - the comparison is with Orton Hall further to the south. The house (left) dating from 1604 is grade II* listed (list entry 1326736) and the attached barn to the right grade II (1311584). It is also known as Orton Old Hall, as the larger house was built a couple of generations later in 1662.

Petty Hall, Orton - detail (2)
The archway through the grade II listed barn gives access to the farmyard behind. The datestone above the doorway to the right reads "WG 1704". See Image for context.

Petty Hall Conservation Area, Orton
A 'conservation area' in this instance means an area of land set aside for nature conservation. A board on site records that the 0.65 hectare site was turned over from stock grazing to wetland plants in 1995.
