University Square (northern side). Belfast
As Belfast expanded during the middle of the nineteenth century its middle class sought suitable accommodation away from the linen mills and engineering works which provided the basis for their wealth. South Belfast experienced much desirable development. The area around what is now Queens University became particularly fashionable. The houses in the photograph were built between 1848 and 1853. They are now occupied by various departments of the university.

The Old Library, Queen's University
Western facade of the original library of the Queen's University of Belfast.
It was constructed 1865-68 to a design by Lanyon, Lynn and Lanyon with later additions (1911-14) by Lynn and (1951) by John MacGeagh. While it looks very much like a converted chapel, the building has always been a library; inside it has been sadly altered by modern restructuring.
Queen's has many different libraries spread throughout the campus - this is now part of the Main Library. See also

Contra-flow cycle lane sign, University Square, Belfast (December 2015)
A contra-flow cycle lane on the southern side of University Square. Traffic runs from the University Road to Botanic Avenue (background). The official description for the sign is “Contra-flow pedal cycles in a one-way street (other than a mandatory contra-flow cycle lane). This may be marked by a broken line on the carriageway or there may be no line at all”.
