A set of drying 'cans' for drying cloth. They are driven by the diagonal duplex (inverted vee) steam engine on the left. This was built by John Dalglish & Sons of Pollokshaws, Glasgow and is of 15 horsepower. The drying cylinders ('cans') would have been heated by exhaust steam. The little black cube on the right with a grey pip entering it is a steam trap. This is a device for separating steam and condensate without wasting live steam to atmosphere (still an essential piece of kit in any steam plant).

Blackwater Valley Museum Power Station
I believe this is the wood chip gasifier on this 200 kW combined heat and power station. See Image for more information. On the day of my visit it was clearly not in commission as there's a large hole in the side of the widget.

Blackwater Valley Museum Power Station
This is a combined heat and power plant that gasifies sawmill wood chips to provide a combustible gas that is burnt along with 10% diesel in an internal combustion engine to produce electricity. Waste heat recovery provides hot water for heating. This 200 kW plant provides enough green electricity for 400 homes. It wasn't working
