Bridge Street, Bangor
Night view of Bridge Street in Bangor. The tables and chairs, empty on this chilly evening, belong to a fish & chip shop. The street name is derived from a bridge which once crossed a river here - in the early 1600s the river served a mill at this location (that river would be the one that flows through Ward Park Image and, now culverted under the town, enters the sea at Bangor Marina Image).

Mixed building, High Street
The ground floor of this building, dating from 1891, is taken up by a charity shop and take-away. I don't know who occupies the upper floors - the flags are in support of the N. Ireland football team's recent exploits in trying to qualify for the 2008 European Championships.

Central Fish Hall [2]
Detail of the window display of McKeown's fish shop seen in Image The variety of fish for sale is dependent on weather and supply - often local hotels and restaurants snap up entire stocks of particular species leaving us mere peasants to choose from what they leave behind. Such is his reputation, Sean McKeown supplies hotels across the country, even as far as the Image Most of the stock for sale is from local waters but some of the more exotic species come from as far as the Indian Ocean. Today's highlights include the fresh local king scallops - see Image - and McKeown's battered scampi.
