A village street scene at the Irish Folk Museum
This jewel, near Ballycultra, is the most impressive museum of its kind in the British Isles. Real houses, cafes, shops, court, police station, churches, school and post office etc. etc. etc. Have been saved from demolition and removed stone by stone and built in this wonderful place. A veritable gem in Northern Ireland's crown. A must see experience.

Image This is a replica of Kelly’s coal office and yard from Carrickfergus. On the left is the yard where the coal was stored and loaded for delivery by horse and cart. The office on the right oversaw despatch of deliveries and operated the weighbridge (below the cart) without having to leave the relative comfort of the office during inclement weather. Domestic orders might also have been taken across the counter in the days before telephone ordering “Hee-lo John Kelly Limited. Kylie spee-king. How may I help yewww”.

Image The original houses were built in 1884 and were typical of the area in architecture and in that they housed employees of the many industries in the area. This row is a replica of Cluan Place, Belfast.
When in the process of taking this photo I was interrupted by two attendants who explained that they had been sent to see why I was taking photographs and who they were for. It seems that the Museum’s policy is to charge professional photographers. Since my camera was supported on a battered 8-year old tripod I was a “professional”. Receiving a reply in the negative they went off to report their findings.
