The George Inn, Abbot's Leigh
The village pub is one of the oldest buildings around and was once a church house; it offered help, stabling, food and drink, courtesy of the church. by the 1750s, it was being run as a public house with the church pocketing the rent. It has had a number of owners over the years - the whole village estate was sold in 1915 for example - but remained at the heart of Abbot's Leigh. In recent years, the popular pub changed its offerings and facilities - much to the disappointment of the locals - and it suffered a period of closure. Only in very recent months has the pub welcomed new management and the hope is that it will return to the fabric of village life and not be an out-of-town restaurant.

Ring another phone for help
In common with many villages, this phone box no longer takes calls. Instead it contains an A.E.D. It was installed here on 1st January, 2018, with support from the Portishead Lions, the Civic Society and the Parish Council. The George Inn pub is beyond.

Abbot's Leigh village hall
A splendid Victorian hall that is the pride of the village, built in 1896 by Sir Cecil Miles. In 1915, the whole Abbots Leigh Estate was sold and the hall was part of the lots. It was then given to the village council in 1927 by Mrs Yda Richardson, who at that time resided in the Manor House. She also gave a hall to the village of Norton Malreward. Yda was the niece of Lord Winterstoke (formerly Sir William Henry Wills, member of the tobacco company family).
